what is a Riad?
We find them only in Morocco, and more specifically in medinas ( former(ancient) City) of Marrakesh, Essaouira, Fés and Méknes. They are the traditional Moroccan residences, also called riads, ryads or Riyadh.
Once crossed(spent) these doors, you enter a big proportionned well court(yard) and discover a hidden palace. In the center of the patio is a fountain or a garden of flower and everything around you of the extraordinarily sober conceptions of mosaics. The court(yard) is shaded by the structure to be lived which surrounds him(it). Generally there are three faces of the riad looking onto the patio with windows which can be decorated by wooden shutters.
Riads respecting the traditional Moroccan architecture is redone by using materials such as the tedlakt and the zellige. Columns supporting the roof are visible around the riad and form a kind of collection of galleries which open on the patio.
Riads postpones western houses of many manners. The decoration(set) and the architecture are often described as luxurious. One of the most striking differences is the use of the space. Instead of having a predefined function(office), details(rooms) are exchangeable and used for several activities. At the first floor are generally the common details(rooms): the lounge(show), one or two details(rooms), the toilet, kitchens and the spaces of meeting.
